MUNICH
Vol. 12, No. 6 Germany
July/ August 2007
Munich has a wide range of fascinating sights with everything from magnificent Baroque palaces to lively, world-famous beer halls! This very popular and scenic tourist destination, surrounded by spectacular views of the Alps, was the power center for the Bavarian kings for nearly 800 years! This issue of The European Traveller uncovers the best of Munich! Which hotels are most charming; which restaurants serve the most authentic Bavarian specialties; and which sights should not be missed? We traveled to Munich anonymously to find out!
Munich is just 90 minutes by train from Salzburg (Austria); two hours from Zurich (Switzerland) and Innsbruck (Austria); and four and one-half hours from Vienna (Austria). The city is also the major gateway to the Bavarian Alps and the famous fairytale castles built by Ludwig II, including Neuschwanstein Castle (Germany’s most visited tourist attraction). Subscribers may also be interested in the issues on Salzburg, the Swiss Alps and the Bavarian Alps (which features the fairytale castles).
