PROVENCE SAMPLER
Vol. 13, No. 5 France
May / June 2008

Provence is famous for its endless fields of lavender, vine-covered farmhouses with thick masonry walls, and picturesque villages that gracefully tumble down steep plateaus. This issue of The European Traveller looks past the popular towns of Aix and Avignon to the "Roman towns" of Nimes and Arles, the lovely medieval village of Uzes and the famous Pont du Gard. The issue also features "a sampling" of the most scenic hilltop villages in the Luberon and the Vaucluse as well as the best regional hotels and restaurants. Which hotels are most picturesque with an ideal location for touring; which scenic terrace restaurants serve the most scrumptious local cuisine; and which quaint market towns (and markets) are the most interesting to explore? We traveled to Provence anonymously to find out! Travellers to Provence may also want to consider the issues on the French Riviera, Paris, Paris Day Trips, St-Tropez/Cannes and Provence-Vaucluse (featuring Aix and Avignon).
